the fact of the matter is the broader left is ultimately not that hospitable for the kind of bohemian shock antics of these people, partly because no one is actually scandalized by someone being a communist anymore and partly because of moral center of the leftism
so they will naturally begin to gravitate to the far right because that’s where genuinely socially unacceptable views reside, of course those views are unacceptable for good reasons not just because they are icky to libs
i understand the critique of liberalism as hypocritical and not living up to its own stated principles, am sympathetic to the idea even that it is structurally unable to live up to its stated principles, but the hatred of liberalism before all else to me is totally alien
Leftism is not fun or transgressive ultimately, it's virtuous and bloodless, universalist , leftist attempts to be carnivalesque usually just end up as revolting spectacles of youthful debauchery dragged into unattractive middle age or turn into the opposite of leftism
bohemianism in America is the extension of adolescence by other means, at some age it starts to just be unseemly and carry with it a certain amount of sleaziness
