Here’s the thing: When Black people say “We been told y’all”, it’s not because we take pleasure in being right about the state of our country and where it’s headed. It’s because it’s painful.
It’s painful to constantly feel like we’re screaming into the void about how the idols of our white Christian siblings will burn this democracy down. It’s painful to watch our history repeat itself over and over again simply because no one listened the first time.
We remember this summer full of black boxes and text messages saying “I see you, I hear you, I stand with you” from the same people who are still making excuses for white supremacist Christianity. We remember being gaslit in 2016 by people who told us it would never come to this.
We remember it all. If you haven’t already, check out this blog post to read Cedric Lundy’s thoughts on this. https://thewitnessbcc.com/we-been-told-yall/
