THREAD: It's clear now that the group looking to impeach Gov. Beshear have troubling actions and social media posts. The Governor highlighted a few of these posts yesterday. But there are more, raising questions as to why the @KYHouseGOP continues to entertain them.

First is Tony Wheatley, who helped organized a rally that ended with the governor hung in effigy. In the month leading up to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, Wheatley posted inflammatory messages on his personal Facebook page that "no one should be off limits."

Last week, as the U.S. Capitol was attacked, Wheatley was claiming "we had people in DC" and "Mike Pence failed" because he did not overturn Electoral College votes.

Andrew Cooperrider often uses his business Facebook page to post political messages. According to that page, Cooperrider was present at the early January 2021 rally where a sign that said “make hanging tyrants great again” was placed on the Capitol grounds.

Additionally, Cooperrider posted a meme making fun of the domestic terror attack on the U.S. Capitol and said “you reap what you sow.”

Randall Daniel is the 2nd Congressional District chair of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky. In December, the group’s page put the Governor’s face on a “Wanted” poster. This came after the governor was already hung in effigy.

And Jacob Clark, a former Libertarian candidate for State House, posted on his campaign Facebook page that “any politician that supports the Patriot Act… should be hanged.” One day later, groups went to the Kentucky Capitol and hung the governor in effigy.

And as mentioned by the Governor yesterday, In April, Clark posted a video to the same page titled “a warning to Governor Andy Beshear” in which a gun is visible behind Clark and that he writes that “God may strike him (Beshear) down.”

In November, Clark raised the spectre of “civil war” on both his personal and campaign accounts based on false pretenses of voter fraud and advocated for filming of all polling places.

Statement from Chair Colmon Elridge:

"These dangerous posts show a pattern of threatening behavior and words toward the governor that is unacceptable. We cannot let people like this -- who cheer the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and repeatedly threaten violence..."

(10/11)
"...against elected officials -- to overturn an election with claims that have absolutely no merit. The fact that the Republicans in the legislature are taking them at face value is disgraceful and an egregious abuse of power.”
