QUICK CAMPAIGN ACTION - WE support #Basingstoke’s Katie Allen in her effort to bring equality to school sports!
Katie is a brilliant Basingstoke schoolgirl who loves football, which was only offered to boys at Katie's school and many others in UK. (1/6) https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/331930

Katie has petitioned Gov to require schools to offer sports to all kids. She says: “Many students are made to feel out of place in school sport because of their gender. They can feel awkward as the sport they want to play is only played by the other gender... (2/6)
...This makes people feel like it's not okay that they play that sport, which is not right!”
WE are backing Katie’s campaign because gender segregation starts kids putting each other and themselves in boxes. Their potential is limited by outdated stereotypes. (3/6)

Mental health suffers from arbitrary limits put on self-expression & physical health suffers in the long-term following the massive drop in sports participation after the age of sixteen. They may even, as in Katie’s case, be bullied trying to play. (4/6)
#EqualityInEducation is one of @WEP_UK's 7 core objectives and as such WE believe school sports offerings should be made equally and freely to all children.
So far, Katie’s petition has over 10,000 signatures. (5/6)
