These two thoughts made me quit smoking instantly. They might help you, too.

“I’m barely making ends meet”

$7.50 a pack x 7 days a week = 52.5/wk
4 wks = $210/mo
12 mos = $2,520

Damn, no wonder you’re broke, you 2.5 grand on fire. What if that was Bitcoin instead of cancer?
“There aren’t enough hours in the day”

3-10 minutes per cigarette
1 pack a day = 1-3 hours a day
365-1460 hours, or 15-61 days wasted per year.

Imagine smoking for 2-8 weeks. Could you endure someone TRYING to kill you for 2-8 weeks? Why are you doing it to yourself?
I said I quit smoking instantly, not easily.

I WISH I could say it was easy, but still want to smoke, every damn day.

But how? Habit replacement is a good place to start.
Every time I want a cigarette, I do some pushups.

You get pretty tired pretty fast if you’re as addicted as I am.

Hard to go smoke if you can’t move.
Or I write. Some of my best thoughts happened while I was smoking, or so I thought.

Turns out I have a lot of good thoughts, but I only thought them because I wasn’t doing anything else.

You probably do, too.
Damn, I found time to work out AND to write. Things I knew I wanted to do, that I knew were good for me but I just “couldn’t find the time” for.

Just try it. Take urge to engage in that filthy, self-destructive habit and turn that energy into LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE.
It requires DISCIPLINE, requires motivation.

If you don’t have any, have someone ELSE hold you accountable.

Call your mom if you have to.
I originally wrote this as a letter to myself, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to share.

I am motivated by my sincere desire for a better life.

I can’t say I want a better life while actively ruining it.

How about you?
