To my GOP evangelical friends who are quick to self-servingly cite “the hand of God” in events: Does the last few months give you a different take on whether Trump is God’s specific chosen instrument? 1/5
Personally, my take is that God’s plan for everyone is that we love Him with all our heart and soul and mind and love our neighbors as ourselves. Anything beyond that unhinges us from His wisdom. 2/5
But if you’re going to play the card that God worked the 2016 election to install Trump because he represents some divine ordination and endorsement, you have to play fair today. 3/5
We could just as easily argue that God gave these church leaders over to their sin of political idolatry so that future generations could learn. (Given the response I’m seeing from many evangelicals today, the lesson is lost on them.) 4/5
But don’t accept my take uncritically. Anyone can bend it in any direction. Best to be guided by love for God and others. Within God’s guidelines, the rest will work out just fine. 5/5
