Said so already that 2012 is when the major chunk of hate started to build on Virat because of him getting ahead of Rohit.

Virat in 2012,

• Cemented his place in the tests
• Became a major ODI player
• Became the Vice Captain

The lobby totally got rattled. https://twitter.com/bhogleharsha/status/157673313911582721
• Sanjay Manjrekar said in 2012 that give Virat one more chance just to get sure that he doesn't belong there. Virat returned back with a 💯

• 2013: After a string of low performances for RCB, Sunny G took a jibe that Virat should look into the mirror. He returned with fine 99
Whenever they criticized Virat, he came out even stronger. Eventually the guy went on to become the all format captain, ruled the world with his bat and has been a good Captain. But the lobby never fails to take dig at him for ICC tournament failure and ask to split the captaincy
Think about a guy in his early 20s, standing in Wankhede stadium and getting booed by the crowd. Imagine what would it do to a youngster if he isn't mentally tough.

MI Vs RCB, 2013, he had to remind people that that he plays for their country and doesn’t come there to be hated.
So if you are trying to understand why Cricket tweeter is so much full of hatred, the reason is that a lobby started hating a youngster back in 2012 and started influencing public opinion through their positions. People will always get divided into camps when you do that.
Rohit too has been a victim of this unnecessary lobbying. Due to this extra hype, people started to observe him more, his failures started to get magnified. Otherwise why in the world would people not celebrate an opener with 9000 runs in ODI and 2500 runs in T20i?
Wheather or not you believe it, the public hate impacts the mental health of players.

Indian cricket will only benifit if we rise above regionalism and leave IPL only to those 2 month.

But is it possible to go back now? Must be tough but not impossible, I guess :)
