For centuries, white Americans oppressed ppl they decided were not white, telling them they should act white, but that they can't be white. Now they seem surprised & mad that everyone else created cool communities offering forms of solidarity and identity that they cannot access.
An extremely guileless white guy I know from a quintessentially white American family once said to me directly that he and other ppl he knows are jealous of people who feel a sense of identity and connection to a community with strong solidarity.
The thing is, I don't think the MAGAs realize that manufacturing grievance and then acting on it isn't the same as experiencing actual adversity, for centuries, at the hands of powerful in-groups. It doesn't work that way.
