This is the year when I #buildinpublic to learn in public.

Here it goes.

A thread on
1. what (and why) we're doing
2. How is it different
3. How're we doing it
4. Where are we today
5. Where are we headed
6. What worked
7. What didn't work
1/ What
Building JustAnotherPM (JAPM)- a platform that answers only two questions:

1. How to get into product management
2. How to do well at product management

Target audience: Aspiring PMs and young PMs (1-4 years of experience)
1.1/ Why

There is a need

Young PMs:

1. have access a lot of online content. But do not have the experience to understand how to apply theory to practice
2. do not have any guides that are personalized to their journey
3. do not have access to experts to ask specific questions
1.2/ Why

Personal motivation

I faced the same challenges👆when I was starting out. I understand the pain
The pain exists even today (moreso in developing countries)

And

I ❤️ #productmanagement.
I ❤️ #learning.
I ❤️ #sharing knowledge. I (think) I am good at it.
2/ There are 100s of experts doing the same. How is JAPM different

Most resources on #productmanagement focus on:

- theory
- frameworks
- learnings from large companies, star PMs and products used by millions
2.1/

The above is really helpful, if you're an experienced (4+ years) PM and are working in a true product org/team.

But most new PMs are not working in product driven companies. Hence might not be able learn from theoretical frameworks or past successes of BIG companies
2.2/
What we try to do differently

1. Create practical guides, that are easy to implement in any org/team
2. Use existing frameworks and break it into step by step "how to" guides
3. Talk to readers to understand their day-to-day challenges, and (try to) solve for them.
3/ How we're doing it

1. Whatsapp broadcast - to share curated and created content
2. Weekly email newsletter - 1 practical guide, 2 productivity hacks, 3 interesting questions
3. Blog + Landing Page
3.1/ Whatsapp broadcast:

How we get subscribers
1. Participation in University events (guest talks, alumni forums)
2. Twitter
3. WOM
4. Link included in newsletter welcome email

Thanks @palakzat for the inspiration.
3.1.1/Whatsapp - learning

Messaging apps are great for sharing content

1. Users have control and flexibility to read, mute, share easily
2. Short form content + pictures/screenshots work best. (see attached)
3. Users are open to share instant feedback and have conversations
3.2/ Email Newsletter
Metrics (attached)

How we get subscribers
1. Twitter threads
2. Blog
3. Reddit
3.2.1/ Email Newsletter - learning [WIP, more work needed]

A few things that we do:

1. Deliver consistently.
2. Use standard format
3. Encourage users to reply/share comments
4. Resend same email to non-openers (thanks for the tip, @jspector)
3.2.2/ Stack

@Twitter , @reddit, existing readers for generating + validating ideas
@notion for idea and calendar management
@Grammarly for writing
@WhatsApp , @ConvertKit for distribution
@zapier for tying it all together
@Ghost for blogging
@digitalocean for hosting
3.3/ Blog
What we're doing well: Publish regularly

What we need to do more:
- Dedicate more time to the below
- Optimize for SEO
- Experiment and improve copy on subscribe forms
You can follow @JustAnotherPM.
