1/4: This confirmation of BEIS’s involvement in the decision to recuse a High Court Judge does not accord with the impression BEIS’s POL Minister, Paul Scully, sought to give in October 2020:
2/4: It’s doubly troubling given Cooper, scheduled to appear before BEIS’s Select Committee in March 2020, was never subsequently questioned after the session was cancelled despite other witnesses of the same day being required by the Committee to respond to written questions.
3/4: Incidentally, the Chair Darren Jones MP, who decided against scrutinising Cooper, maintains cordial links with his former employers Womble Bond Dickinson via his charitable Henacre Trust.
4/4: And the bid to recuse Judge Fraser, blessed by Cooper only to be crucified by Coulson, failed on account of its being ‘fatally flawed’, ‘absurd’ & ‘without substance’. Yet WBD, who supported the application, remains a Tier One member of HMG’s General Legal Advice Services.
