Let’s talk about “dunking” (a thread, non-basketball edition):

So Twitter's a weird app where folks give their 2¢ on things and if your opinion is bad enough, your take will spread at lightning speed as you get ratio’d to Valhalla.

Of course funny/spicy/thirsty things spread too, minus the ratio-ing.

Twitter’s also an app with uneven audiences. Those with a large reach can disseminate harmful, hurtful, disempowering information in an instant.

With great power, comes...

So I believe in “punching up”, and I think it is a fine use of the bird app to hold people accountable.

Public accountability is the great leveler on twitter dot com, as someone's ill-thought take really can harm.

Especially in a community where followers can be young /impressionable, the masses should decide what's acceptable & what's not for those who have the biggest megaphones

BUT - if we see a bad take from someone clearly still forming their worldview, or, someone who has no/little platform and seeks to grow theirs based on intentionally outraging others...

Maybe it's not the best use of our megaphones to ratio Mr. Blankfaceprofile Mc-3-Followers?

We do see it too often on BirdApp™ where *probably* a teenager posts a hasty take and then the entire of Twitter for 2 days dunks on this poor kid when he probably just needed a little bit of constructive criticism/to learn some nuance??

At least "punch even" folks... please?

Now I am absolutely no saint when it comes to Twitter behavior, but can we save our collective outrage on BlueCheckmarks dot yarf for annoying folks like me who probably do need to be kept in check once in a while??

I know this is like, all attempts at "influencing" discourse on here is ultimately futile, but I wanted to gently nudge some folks to reflect on the origin of the thing-we're-getting-up-in-arms-about-today.

Once again, I'm far from perfect on this site but just my 2¢ here.

Thanks for reading this far, I'm also aware I have pretty much no authority telling y'all what to do. Just indulging in my microphone.
