Jesus also said this: "Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. Luke 12:51ff.

The message of Jesus divides. The gospel divides.
If you truly follow the humble, self-giving, power-surrendering, justice-loving, outcast-gathering, truth-telling Jesus you will experience divisions...even with people you love. Why? Because this is simply a part of carrying your cross and denying yourself to follow Jesus.
Imagine the religious leaders of Jesus' day saying, "God demands unity!" He'd likely say "Repent and believe the gospel! These are the prerequisites for unity. And should this unity become a reality, we will be following MY moral roadmap- and It will kill you and your delusions."
The reason why unity among self-identifying Christians is so distant right now is because many refuse to consider the possibility that THEY are the arrogant, power-hungry, justice-denying, outcast-rejecting, truth-abandoning Pharisees in our current drama.
Do not sacrifice truth, real discipleship, gospel witness, and Christian mission on the altar of a wicked unity.
If that "Christian" unity:
- Is merely a cover continued, unrepentant sin.
- Silences inconvenient parts of Scripture.
- Is comfortable dividing Word & deed, grace & truth, gospel & ethics...

It's not really unity you get. It's complicity. Let the one who has ears hear...
