So
@TheWarOnDrugs released a Live album in November
which addresses, uncertainly, the question whether
all @TheWarOnDrugs songs
are the same song
– answer: not quite, there are at least two or three, but it's a near thing –
but that's not important right now: 1/5
What is important is that the set includes a version of

"Accidentally Like a Martyr,"

a song by the late and very great #WarrenZevon
that appears on the L&VGWZ's Classic Album
"Excitable Boy."

Here is @TheWarOnDrugs version:

https://open.spotify.com/track/3aVCtkdp9M5VhYfhmx841P?si=aXYchNaVTUixtL-QOXw-Sg 2/5
And here is the L&VGWZ's version:

3/5
And what I learn from comparing the two is that this song works – and how – because there is no vocal on the bridge, which is a restrained little Coplandische piano figure topped by fewer than a dozen slightly bent guitar notes – #WaddyWachtel, for the win, in the original – 4/5
and that bridge entirely sells and pastes and staples down the whole delicate thing.
And @TheWarOnDrugs has figured it out, and gives that little piano bridge bit, somewhat gaudily, pride of place and due honour.
So
Anyway
Great song, and happy to be reminded of that fact.

5/fin
