Part of the problem with the white left in NZ has always been its failure to priorities the anti - racist struggle.

While I have been called an “economic essentialist” - as a WOC I have always understood that the class struggle is intrinsically linked with anti-racism.

You only have to look around to figure that out. But the white lefts failure to priorities anti-racism has made it irrelevant & in many cases hypocritical in the eyes of many POC. For example look to the institutions of “the left” and we see who is in the positions of power.

Anti-racism must be a key priority in all organisations in NZ. But particularly so for the white left. Structural racism must be dismantled before we can ever hope for an equitable society.

@shaneellall this thread was inspired by your recent experience. You are absolutely right - if white people expect us to be polite in response to their racism - they can get in the bin.
