@DogGeneticsLLC pointed out that the #RStats #dataviz below included helpful alternative text (i.e. alt-text) which makes it accessible to screen readers. Thank you Liz!

I'm including the alt-text @Hao_and_Y used in a thread for those of us that don't use screen readers 🧵 https://twitter.com/Hao_and_Y/status/1349055287169331200
If you don't use a screen reader, you can (usually) tell which images have alt-text by the "ALT" label on the bottom-left of the image

On a desktop, you can right-click on the image and click on "inspect element" to see it

Try it out! See if you can spot the following alt-text:
Note: The following 3 sentences are all part of the same alt-text description.

---

Sentence 1:

A scatterplot of points (each point represents a piece of art) with year on the x-axis ~1550 to 2010, and aspect_ratio on the y-axis ~0 to ~17.
Sentence 2:

Most points are clustered near an aspect ratio of 1, though there is clear bimodality, and more variation in aspect ratio, especially in wider pieces (larger max aspect ratio over time), starting around 1800.
Sentence 3:

The blue smoothed lines are just a hair closer to y = 1 than the red horizontal lines.
