I’ve been organizing against Rick Snyder & the damage his policies, negligence & callous indifference caused to my community & state for a decade. This is an important step to healing the #FlintWaterCrisis. There can be no healing without accountability. 1/ https://twitter.com/AP/status/1349078262694223874
But healing also requires actually fixing the water, providing healthcare to the people and reparations for the damage and pain caused to a community. 2/
It also requires understanding the roots of the crisis, digging it up, & ripping it out. The roots lay firmly in the anti-democratic Emergency Management Law. The law that gave unilateral authority over majority Black cities to an EM appointed by Gov. 3/
(Will do a whole different thread on Emergency Management Law soon. It’s actually very important case to understanding the democracy loathing corporate-conservative political infrastructure, austerity, and race, but for another day) 4/
The only reason we are talking about accountability at all today is because Flint folks organized relentlessly to uncover the crisis, to support one another, and to demand justice for YEARS. 5/
Many lessons relevant to the current moment. Here’s 3: 1)There can be no healing w/out accountability, w/out repair or w/out reparations. 2)We must relentlessly root out anti-democratic policies & actions. 3)It’s when everyday folks band together & organize that things change.
