The thing I really don't get about Trump supporters being willing to mount an insurrection and go to jail for him is that he's been an abject failure. I get it--they love his populism, his racism, his thin veneer of toughness, but...
He fought a costly trade war and lost. Lost miserably. Completely screwed American farmers and workers. The US trade deficit in goods for November was the highest ever. In goods & services, the deficit is now the highest since 2006. https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-business-global-trade-61476b5f303ef01d6d55b6d1424cf1a2
He promised to reduce the US budget deficit and did the reverse. And it wasn't due to COVID--he was hoisting huge amounts of debt on our children from the start:
2017: $665B
2018: $779B
2019: $984B
2020 before COVID: $1,083B
2020 after COVID: $3,700B https://www.thebalance.com/us-deficit-by-year-3306306

Trump loved to say he improved the economy, but if so, why were we increasing debt rather than reducing it? In part, it's because Trump and the GOP passed a tax cut that gave those earning $1M a 3.3% increase in income but those earning $50k got half that. https://www.npr.org/2017/12/19/571754894/charts-see-how-much-of-gop-tax-cuts-will-go-to-the-middle-class
And while the fact COVID occurred on his watch isn't Trump's fault, the complete failure to lead and limit pandemic damage is all on him. Out of 122 nations w/ population of 5M+, the US ranks 2nd for cases per capita and 6th in deaths per capita. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries
Here is the scale of Trump's complete failure on COVID: As of today, the US has lost 389,000 lives to #COVID19. That is more than US combat deaths in four years of WWII. Today alone, we lost more than in 8 years of combat in the Iraq War. Trump failed America and it cost lives.

He has had no success outside of the stock market, and that is not a gauge of American success or his performance. We have a higher trade deficit, higher budget deficit, higher unemployment, skyrocketing COVID deaths, and low global respect. Trump's failed in every way.
And none of that is even to get into the fact he lied to America about the election for the purpose of retaining power, encouraged average Americans to fight, and then abandoned them as they face prison for sedition. All of America should cheer as Trump is #impeached tomorrow.
Impeachment is only the first step. The Senate needs to try and convict Trump and remove him from office days before his term ends. Finally, the Senate must vote to bar him from holding Federal office again. And then, Trump can face the Federal and State charges awaiting him.
Trump failed America. We need leaders in the best of times, but Trump thought only of himself in the worst. He deserves to face accountability for his failings, and if we do the right thing, America will enjoy better days ahead.
