I spent years of my life being harassed by "pro-life" trolls trying to get me fired from my job as a youth minister because I was a lesbian, so I deeply and intimately KNOW these people, and have watched their power and influence only grow.

In 2007, when I was outed to the whole staff of my church by an internet stalker, the priest and the staff were really kind and supportive, even though I was convinced I was going to be fired so they could avoid a PR shitshow.
And we'll never know how much of that was simply because they knew me, I grew up in that church, and I was Theresa Willett's daughter, vs. how different the experience would be if I was a random new person from nowhere who had just been hired.
I absolutely believe if it happened today, they would fire me. they would have had to. the entire landscape of right-wing harassment has changed. it wouldn't just be a few blog posts for a tiny cult-y fan base of a few hundred. it would be rocks through the windows.
