1) Thread entitled: 'basic tips on training for a gunfight from a combat vet'
I don't often venture into this realm on Twit ter, but considering the current climate I just want to throw out a few pointers...
2)
- when training always fire a minimum of 2 magazines successively. When adrenaline is high, 'fight or flight' can make you freeze if you haven't committed reloading to "muscle memory"
3) - practice drawing, firing and reloading from every conceivable position and do it repeatedly, to the point that you can do so when 1/2 asleep.
- aim small miss small
4)
- remember that slow = smooth, smooth = fast. Make your movements mechanically proficient 1st, then work on speed while maintaining functional form during training.
- expect to get "rattled", the gunfighter who stays the most composed wins 90% of gunfights
5)
- if possible have someone else rapid firing close by to condition yourself to the sound of being shot at
- hesitation can make your fears become reality. Condition yourself for immediate response
- train as frequently as you can
- train with the weapons u intend to use...
6) ....training all day with your deer rifle or goose gun isn't going to translate
