Lana Del Rey isn’t Pro-Trump or racist, a thread.
1 = in this interview, she was asked if she cares about losing fans due to her outspokenness on trump and strong messages- her reply: “in terms of losing fans, i don’t care. period.”
2= here’s some tweets regarding Trump, the election and who she voted for: “You know I voted for Biden.”
3= Lana publicly confirmed she attempted to use witchcraft against Donald Trump- does that sound like something a Trump supporter would do?
4= she went off at Kanye West for supporting Trump: “Trump becoming our president was a loss for our country but your support for him was a loss for the culture”
5= next up is her alleged racism. i want to firstly state that i’m a POC.
in this clip she speaks about giving 50% of the proceeds from her spoken word album to native organisations to help “preserve their rights”
6= in this clip, she states that she believes that america needs to pay the reparations to the black community, and that she advocates for it.
7= in her notorious instagram post, she received a lot of criticism for saying there needs to be a place in feminism for women that “look like [her]”. lots of people took this as her talking about her race. here’s her clearing that up:
8= she also received criticism for “not mentioning any non-black women” in her infamous post; even though she mentioned Ariana Grande (white), and Camilla Cabello (mexican).
9= Lana also received a lot of comments saying she wasn’t inclusive enough, she disagrees with this- “i’ve got a lot of issues, but inclusivity isn’t one”, she goes on to say she has friends from all around the world, all of whom voted for Biden
10= some more proof that Lana IS inclusive: teaming up with and including other black artists in her albums and music videos.
11= here’s some posts Lana shared in support of the BLM movement: “how does one begin to describe how greatly they desire equality for the world?”
12= a video Lana shared of her at a BLM protest, via instagram:
13= She says she gets told by her friends that her friends ARE from all over the place:
finally, i want to add a personal note:
you’re completely entitled to your own opinion on Lana Del Rey and her work, but to call her racist is extremely wrong- it desensitises the term and normalises accusing people of being racist, which makes the claim worthless.
thank you.
