A friend asked me to explain "Why is there a giraffe is Revue Starlight" so here is a very rudimentary rundown/textual analysis

(Spoilers ahead obviously)
First off, what's RevStar about? If I could boil the show down to one theme it's that theater sucks. Specifically, it's about how the systemic nature of theater (particularly the Takarazuka Revue's "Top Star" system) demoralizes young women and their self-worth via competition
This is an aspect in nearly every character. Mahiru attaches all her self-worth to Karen. Hikari is depressed. Kaoruko and Futaba fight. Nana attempts to escape the cycle of tragedy (people's ambitions getting crushed and dropping out) by repeating it. The list goes on.
In that sense the auditions represent not just actual metaphysical contests of will between the actresses but well... auditions. They're staking themselves on their ability to perform and inspire. Which is where the giraffe comes in.
The giraffe's relationship to the auditions is unclear at first; he's implied to be running them but it's not explicit until the last episode where, as Karen and Hikari fight, he talks about how they're trapped in such a dramatic clash because he - and the audience - desires it
The statement is a commentary on the nature of theater under consumerism. The dramatic turn excites the audience, and as long as they continue to consume such Drama uncritically, the girls will continue to put on the show to please people, no matter the cost to themselves
In that sense, you can either view the giraffe as an analogy for a producer, "constructing" the auditions for maximum audience engagement, or as the audience itself, wishing to see what rapturous turns of fate play out on stage
As for why the giraffe is a giraffe? I have no idea personally
