Fiction writing tip: your hero’s journey should not be from “stuck” to “taking control” or from “passive” to “active.” I ~always~ try to do this and it flops bc it’s no fun watching a passive character get pushed along on their journey. /1
Taking control can (and should!) be part of their transformation, but think about *active* ways their weakness/character flaw can manifest that don’t involve sitting around like a blob while things happen to and around them. /2
Active ways to be “stuck”: self-sabotage! People-pleasing! Being curmudgeonly or mean or trying to seem cool while they’re losing it inside! All better than feeling nothing, not caring, letting life pass them by.
