I've been thinking a lot about what Republicans who supported Trump need to do to be "forgiven" (whatever that means). The one thing that is consistently missing from all of these statements of backing away is an acknowledgment of their role in building this.
I'd never vote for any of them again, but their words don't hold any weight with me until they say "I did a very bad thing by supporting Trump even though I knew he was capable of this."
And they all knew he was capable of this. If I knew, they knew. And they encouraged him.
Walking away after the tides change means you can take the political temperature. That's certainly not enough.
