Unpopular opinion:
Online education/university actually works well for me.
I can mostly set a schedule that works for me. I don’t loose time traveling, and I’m not constantly exhausted from social interaction. Because now I can actively choose who I socialise with, as well as when (mostly) and for how long.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t better for everyone. I only really know of one or two people that agree with me, most are struggling, like my twin @Fii_a_, and help and support needs to be available to those who need it.
But for me, who thrives being alone and not surrounded by people and noise at all times, it’s nice. And I’m already sort of worrying how I’m going to get used to going back to university physically when the pandemic allows it and my bachelors doesn’t provide online learning.
With this comes some sort of feeling of guilt that a pandemic that has killed so many, and even made me sick, has in some way benefited me? I know it’s all very individual, but it’s also not the easiest to come to terms with that I’m doing better now than I have in a while.
I’m also lucky that I’m studying courses that have been heavy on the reading & writing as well as adapted to online learning (besides one on documentary and media cultures, but it worked out well). Seeing Sophia struggle with multiple lectures in a day and online labs shows that.
So I guess it’s less of an unpopular opinion, and more of an uncommon experience.
