Today on Soccer Training Tuesday
we look at resistance training and the importance of it. Many times, we associate lifting weights with football and not many times with soccer. But current research shows that soccer players should have a place in the weight room. #SST #soccer

Research shows that with 6 weeks of resistance training with plyometrics can increase performance compared to a control group. Improvements were seen in sprint times, kicking velocity, vertical jump height, and average velocity.
The weight room is for every athlete in any sport and soccer should not be the exemption. I see many people shy away from the weight room because they don’t want to get bulky and get slow. This research shows that is not true.
It is also important to be able to teach proper lifting techniques to help prevent injury in the weight room. The weight room can be one of the safest places to be with proper instruction. So, get your kids in there!
So the take away point from this is get your kids in the weight room! Many college programs will put them in the weight room anyways, so give your kid a jumpstart! This would best be done in the offseason and make sure to maintain during the rest of the season.
Let me know what you guys want to see from me next week! Will you start getting your kids in the weight room? What challenges do you face with using the weight room? Let me know what you think!
