Disappointed but not surprised to see @DemSocialists and @RefuseFascism center themselves in a piece about a march put together by numerous anarchist/Antifascist coalitions. Refuse Fascism was not involved in planning - nor would they ever be invited to participate - in any way.
While some DSA members did participate in the Antifascist march, and were welcome to, they had been advised that this was not to be co-opted as a DSA-centric action.Instead of hearing their milquetoast quotes, we’d instead love to hear from the more radical groups/coalitions.
To the DSA members that came to the march and showed true solidarity, thank you.
Antifascist members of DSA have supported numerous autonomous actions in NYC and beyond this summer and over the years. If only their more electorally-minded comrades would do the same.
It’s sad to see so many radical coalitions are continually silenced/taunted/and shut out of their own narratives so that a more “socially acceptable” org can take the credit. That’s why antifascists always have to put out their own communiques. We’d never be heard otherwise.
All the behind the scenes work was done by those who identify most as antifascists. Seeing others step in and attempt to claim all the hard hours and organizational work as their own is heartbreaking.
Mainstream orgs that claim to be in alliance with Antifascist principles should direct press towards radical communiques or agreed-upon talking points when speaking to press on behalf of an event they didn’t have much of a hand in organizing and were told to support not overtake
Piece in question BTW https://www.newyorkcountypolitics.com/2021/01/12/dsa-and-allies-rally-against-fascism/
