This is the first briefing we have had since the coup. This is what the Department of Justice and FBI are willing to tell us. Let’s listen in. As always, pay attention to who is working to preserve our democracy and isn’t 🧵

Says FBI is working with everyone, state and local to find these criminals and bring them to justice. He turns it over to Acting US Attorney in DC Michael Sherwin.

Sherwin: scope is huge. Capitol, both inside and outside are a crime scene.

1000s of witnesses to 100s of cases.
The enormity of the scope will take a long time to bring everyone to justice. Multiple courts, multiple districts. Not going to be completed by next week. Long haul.

170 subject files opened (they have already identified 170 people.)

70 cases have already been charged.
That number will grow to the 100s.
He wants to clarify misconceptions on the range of criminal conduct.

Trespassing, theft of mail, theft of computer devices, assault o local officers, theft of potential national security info, felony murder, civil right excessive force*3.
They looked for the most simple charge they can file as soon as they could. This allows the. To start arresting people. They can later be indicted on more serious charges.

Several firearms charges filed already.

Grand jury in DC up already.
The zip tie people, the feet up on desk people? Those are who you know about, the FBI is looking at conspiracy, sedition charges.

Sedition charges are felony and carry 20 year prison sentences.
Priority is on weapons charges, and explosive device charges. Confirms pipe bombs were found.

Confirms, tear gas was used against our Capitol police. That they were in hand to hand combat*4

More pictures and videos to come.
People will be shocked by the egregious contact they will see in the coming weeks.

Rioters specifically targeted era of the media and assaulted them.*5
