Believing this patent absurdity ("coup attempt") is a reflection of the privilege and comfort of living in the imperial core.

What a REAL coup attempt looks like, approximately, is this: platoons, or battalions, of BDU-clad machine-gun-toting guys in jeeps, armored troop carriers, and the like, executing at least semi-planned and -disciplined maneuvers with real and attainable tactical objectives, ...
such as seizing key command and control centers (probably NOT the capitol!), cutting off or controlling communications, and so on -- and all of this happening simultaneously, according to a plan, and directed by real leaders of some intelligence and knowledge ...
of how to pull it off, and all with the purpose of seizing power and deposing the existing order.

The "coup attempt" of the 6th was a rag-tag mob of unarmed Trumpist morons and idiots wearing viking helmets, blustering around in the capitol after having been more or less INVITED in by "security" people who were apparently instructed in advance to stand down and stand aside.
The whole thing is just preposterous, obviously a media spectacle. There was never the slightest chance of seizing power or deposing the existing order; hence no "coup attempt".
And yet, brain-dead "leftists" are eating it up. Again I say: it is because of their (OUR) privilege and comfort, idling our precious white asses in the highly-sheltered imperial core, having the luxury of being ignorant of what REAL military action (such as a coup) looks like.
But as Hickel writes in the excellent thread of his (follow the links I gave), the PoC in Guatemala, Congo, Brazil, Indonesia, etc., DO know what real military action looks like, because it happened in their own front yards, and it was perpetrated by the U.S. gov ...
with the approval of all of us. WE, ALL OF US, (including all but a few devout anti-imperialist leftists who are seriously preparing for socialist/anti-fascist revolution), tolerated it, supported it, sponsored it, voted for it. AND WE STILL FUCKING DO.
The great majority of us, including me, are not truly devout and committed anti-imperialist leftists seriously preparing for socialist revolution, and deeply committed to human liberation.
Instead, we are bourgeois lazy-asses, addicted to our privileges and comforts, and unwilling to do the serious dangerous work of preparing to foment revolution and thereby institute real change. Our sanctimonious "black lives matter" and related bullshit is as deep as a puddle.
We don't give two shits about PoC. If we did, WE would be in BDUs, toting machine guns, and taking over DC, toward liberty and justice for the PoC in Guatemala, Congo, Brazil, Indonesia, and scores of other places ruined by the U.S.
Yes, let us all become concerned about coup attempts: REAL ones for which we (yes WE: libs, "leftists", progressives) are responsible, and ones having REAL serious fallout such as deaths and immiseration of zillions of people for generations afterward.
