Reps who just baselessly voted against certifying elections say we just need to move on. "If Biden really wanted unity, he'd call everyone off, & we could reconcile."

What tripe.

We should be unified in this: officials may not sow suspicion to reap rebellion./2
The "unity" defense, of course, isn't really a defense. It's just a talking point to deflect & try to shift lack of unity to others.

It's an attempt to dodge discussing bedrock constitutional principles like democratic governance & the peaceful transfer of power./3
The reason they want to dodge it is b/c they do not want to upset voters who, having been lied to by the President, are convinced the election was stolen.

And, for some of them, addressing the issue requires them to acknowledge their role in misleading the public./4
Here is where my Senator, @tedcruz, deserves a special shout out. Between the election & Jan. 6, Cruz never once publicly assured Texans that no credible evidence of voter fraud had been found./5
What did @tedcruz do instead? He threw twigs in Trump's election-fraud-fire w/ tweets that suggested that there really were problems with the elections. Then he waited until days before the Jan. 6 certification to say we needed to do a 10-day investigation before certification./6
Cruz had the gall to tell the Houston Chronicle he was just trying to "restore widespread faith" in our election by doing all of this. We Texans should not let Cruz spit on us and tell us he's just trying to cool us down on a summer day./7
The way a real leader would have worked to restore widespread faith in the election was by being very clear that no credible evidence of widespread fraud had been found & that even if some legal issues may have theoretical merit, they weren't brought soon enough./8
Instead, Cruz wanted to position himself as the heir to Trump, and that meant acting like he too thought there were very serious problems, when he knew full well there was nothing suggesting that Trump should have won the election./9
So Cruz and others won't want to talk about impeachment b/c it will lay bare the very real way he & others helped foster an atmosphere of distrust that led hundreds of insurrectionists into the US Capitol on Jan & the death of Brian Sicknick. 6./10
So when Cruz & others claim they wish we "would all unify & move one" what they really mean is they just want conservatives to forget about how they not only failed to lead their constituents, but also fostered the climate that led to the Jan. 6 attack./11
Traditional conservatives like me have to remember that democracy is a foundational antecedent to the liberties we cherish & having a truly limited gov't. We can't let the likes of Hawley & Cruz chip away foundational principles just b/c they agree with us on the rest./end
