Ten years after managing this team, Grady Little got his first MLB managing position with the Red Sox in 2002.
. @RealCJ10 was voted the Southern League’s top prospect by the circuit’s managers despite playing only half of the season with Greenville. 2/
Javy Lopez, the 1992 Southern League Most Valuable Player, played in the World Series that October. 3/
Tony Tarasco had a 24-game hit streak in 1992, the second-longest in franchise history. 4/
Nate Minchey went 13-5 for Greenville, leading the SL in victories before he was traded to the Red Sox for Jeff Reardon in August. 5/
Mike Kelly became the first of only two 20/20 players in Greenville history, hitting 25 homers and stealing 21 bases. Kelly’s single-season home run record stood until Mike Hessman hit 26 in 2001.
Donnie Strange led an unsung pitching staff with 18 saves out of the bullpen. 7/
Aubrey Waggoner, a veteran reserve outfielder had a career year in 1992, batting .270 with 14 HR & 21 SB in just 90 games. 8/
Tarasco, a big part of that '92 squad was involved in the famous playoff incident in 1997 at Yankee Stadium when youngster Jeff Maier reached over the wall and caught Derek Jeter’s home run. Tarasco was the Orioles outfielder waiting at the fence to catch the ball. 8/
