Building a great brand takes a strategic approach.

I'm thinking through how to grow our brand at @VitalizeVC

Looking at:

- Values
- Goals
- Differentiation
- Channel
- Distribution
- Flywheels
- Partnerships

A 🧵on my branding process + examples of who is crushing it 👇🏽
1/ What are our values?

Before anything, building a brand requires an understanding of WHO you are and WHAT you want to be known for.

Luckily, @GaleBowman has set the foundation to build off of with her personal values: https://twitter.com/GaleBowman/status/1345865359711236103
2/ What are our goals?

As a venture fund and angel network, we want to:

1) Source investment opportunities
2) Build a community of investors

We also want to invest in and provide opportunities for DIVERSE founders/investors

Our brand-building needs to support all our goals
3/ What metrics should we track?

In building a brand, there are a variety of metrics to track.

From impressions to followers to inbound interest, what's important is deciding on the metrics that matter most - then tracking those metrics over time to find what's working.
4/ How do we differentiate ourselves?

Founders have to tell a compelling story, answering the "Why you?" question.

As investors, we have to do the same, thinking about:

Why should founders choose us?

What makes us stand out?

Our brand needs to clearly articulate this.
5/ What type of content will we create?

We can create original content, but we can also curate helpful resources from others.

We could create long-form thought pieces, interview founders and investors like I've done with @justgogrind, or stick to more "snackable" content.
6/ What channels will we focus on?

Blogs like @paulg and @msuster
Podcasts like @HarryStebbings and @Jason
Newsletters like @lolitataub and @a16z
YouTube like @garrytan and @ycombinator
Social like @MacConwell and @ArlanWasHere

We can't do them all.

We have to prioritize.
7/ How do we create a flywheel?

I love the content @randfish has put out on flywheels, which are:

"A continuously improving set of repeatable, tactical investments that scaled with decreasing friction."

I'm thinking about this with @VitalizeVC too https://sparktoro.com/blog/why-marketing-flywheels-work/
7/ Who should we partner with?

Brands aren't built alone.

In building the @VitalizeVC brand, I'm thinking through potential co-investors and future investors at later stages for our portfolio companies.

Establishing mutually beneficial partnerships is an important piece.
8/ One recent partnership I've loved observing is:

@SahilBloom with @jackbutcher

Sahil's incredible threads + Jack's amazing visualizations = PURE MAGIC

With partnerships 1 + 1 = >2

Finding the right partnerships can be a win for everyone.
Thanks, @thisiskp_ and @mubashariqbal for the build-in-public inspiration for this thread

Thanks also to @N_Sportelli for the brand-building content I've been learning a lot from and am excited to implement at @VitalizeVC
