Let's note that Trump's border wall event today is not actually in Alamo. It is in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Pharr. But Alamo is a great city!
Alamo has one of the best pulgas in the #RGV. It is also the home base for the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. Those are two must-visit locales for any South Texas trip.

Tragically, the city shut down the Y-Not in 2013 after many neighborhood complaints and a minor police standoff/raid issue.

Alamo's ex-Mayor Rudy Villarreal loved to tell stories about migrant farmworking & how his family built the Y-Not Bar building as a grocery in the '30s.

In 2011 he renamed the city's main street, Alamo Road, after himself, with the support of #txlege. Locals were not happy.

Rudy died in 2018, after 24 years in the Navy and 24 years as the city's mayor. I miss talking to him.

There are many other great and quirky things about Alamo. At least stop at the pulga on your way back to Harlingen.
