Welcome to my thread on Kendrick Lamar, a modern day rap genius & an incredible artist.

I'll be covering Kendrick's beginnings, his overall discography, and other cool stuff about him.

If you like this thread, I ask you give it a RT so it can reach a wider audience. Enjoy!
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth is the holder of 12 projects. 4 being studio albums, 1 compilation album, 1 EP, 5 mixtapes, and 1 soundtrack album. He began rapping as a teenager under the name K-Dot and released 4 mixtapes that often don't get talked about in Kendrick conversations.
The tapes weren't anything mind blowing and kind of underwhelming in comparison to the rest of his discography. Kendrick didn't really have the resources until his mixtape Overly Dedicated.
Before we dig into OD I wanted to highlight 1 track specifically on his tape C4 that I think is noteworthy. He sample Wayne's song Playing With Fire, and just when you think the track is over, Kenny explodes!
Overly Dedicated was my first real introduction to Kendrick. This album got Kendrick the attention he deserved. The track Ignorance is Bliss specifically is what got Dr. Dre to reach out to the Compton native to work together.
The tape also features some incredible artists like Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, Jhene Aiko, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Murs. Incredible lineup that made the project enjoyable, but still nowhere near what was to come in Kenny's career.
In 2010 Kendrick also dropped a track that I still go back to, LOOK OUT FOR DETOX. He absolutely spazzed on here and I have to drop a video for you all to enjoy
2011 came by and so did the BET cyphers when they were fun to watch. I apologize in advance for the quality as this was the only video I could find. Kendrick cyphered alongside my personal favorite Big K.R.I.T but unfortunately I couldn't fit both.
Not only were Kendrick and K.R.I.T both in the same cypher, they were also in the same XXL freshman class! Here's a short video of his freestyle
Alright 2011 hits and Kendrick comes through with an incredible first studio album, Section.80. We got so many incredible tracks on here and one of my all-time favorite Kendrick tracks, Hiiipower.
Section.80 is home to the fan favorite ADHD and if you never drove around Los Santos with it blasting in the whip, you haven't lived. You could ask anyone what their favorite track is on here and I'm sure the answer will always be different.
We actually got Ronald Reagan Era, Poe Mans Dreams, RIGAMORTUS, Kush & Corinthians, and HiiiPower on the same album. But.. we also got No Make Up, probably the only track on here that brings the album down.
Now, 2012 hits and before we get into GKMC, I wanna drop a video of Kendrick breaking down his favorite cereal and the science behind it. Also check out his track Cartoons & Cereal if you haven't had the chance to yet!
Here we are. 2013. Kendrick drops his first major label studio album, good kid, m.A.A.d city. Personally this is one of my favorite albums of all time - the replay value is insane!
The movie like experience is unlike any other. Kendrick paints pictures throughout the album with great skits, which traditionally can ruin an album, unlike here.
MARTIN HAD A DREAAAAM
There really isn't a bad track involved in this album, and it's home to SAMIDOT, a track that most hold as Kendrick's best.

This was Kendrick's first time hitting #17 on the US top 100 billboard with his track Swimming Pools.
Swimming Pools was genius because although it was a track that EVERYONE had on during parties, the deeper meaning was the opposite. The whole track is about peer pressure into drinking alcohol and Kendrick executed it flawlessly.
2 years go by and we reach 2015, Kendrick's highly anticipated album To Pimp a Butterfly. This album had EVERYONE listening. Nobody knew how he would follow GKMC but he showed us.
TPAB was more than just an album, it is a symbol, a piece of art. Socially conscious album with jazz inspired beats. The production was an extreme highlight aside from Kendrick's continued elite rapping.
This will be Kendrick's holy grail album and one of the most critically acclaimed albums in hip hop. I'm not sure if he will ever be able to top it but I sure hope he does.
Kendrick then decided to drop a compilation album of tracks that didn't quite fit into his albums and delivered to us untitled unmastered. This album has some of his most underrated tracks that people often sleep on due to it being shadowed by his strong discography.
In the midst of all these album drops from Kenny, we also got 4 tracks in the Heart series. The 4th one was something special because when he teased it on his Instagram everyone was in album mode. Then when the track dropped at the end of it he hinted at April 7th.
2017 rolls around and we get his 4th album, Damn. I think because of TPAB, the expectations were ridiculously high. Damn is nowhere near a bad album, having great production and some of his most vulnerable writing yet.
Damn was also home to his first number 1 track ever, Humble.
The crazy part about this album is that it can be enjoyed from front to back or the opposite way. He was a genius when it came to laying out the album.
2018 we got the soundtrack for Black Panther which Kendrick Lamar both helped produce and rapped on. Again, very underrated album that often gets left out in the Kendrick conversation. I personally think it will age great.
Present -
Well here we are. As of today, it has been 1368 days since the release of Damn. We have no clue when he will be dropping his next album. All we can do it wait, but we KNOW he has been cooking, and I am ready to eat.
To sum things up, Kendrick is solidified as one of the greats and a modern day rap genius. Here's to hoping that he drops in 2021!

I hope you all enjoyed my thread! 😎
