A lot of what's going on right now makes more sense if you view the information chasm between the left and the right as the purpose of the rift, rather than the cause of it
When you see left-winger mischaracterize their enemies and get angry when corrected, understand that the main thing they are fighting for is their own ignorance
And you'll say, "But Rob, right-wingers do this too." Yes, to a degree. But the right has an advantage the left does not: the ability to accept that all things do not need to be controlled/understood by humans.
Left-wing ideology demands that everyone be put in their place. Right-wing ideology assumes there will always be conflict and competition. The right can therefore accept the existence of the left, but not vice versa
I call this an "advantage," but it's only an advantage epistemologically. Strategically it's a disadvantage, because the right will leave the left alone, but the left never stops fighting the right.
This is why there's generally no point in trying to educate someone on the left about the right. They aren't angry because they're misinformed; they're demanding to be misinformed because they are angry. And you're making them angrier.
The left didn't hate the Tea Party because the Tea Party was racist; they demanded that the Tea Party be racist because the left hated them.
I don't consider myself "right wing," but I will absolutely ally the right against the left, because the right isn't trying to reeducate or kill me.

The worst thing right-wingers generally call me is "useless," which is probably true. The left tell me I don't deserve to exist. This is not a difficult choice for me.
