#Historical_Negationism I was in Kashi over the weekend and was at the site if the holy Bindu Madhava Temple. I was explaining the greatness of the temple to my fellow travellers and was relating how Alamgir ordered the temple, one of the grandest in Kashi in its times, to (1/n)
Be destroyed and replaced with the Alamgir mosque which stands there today arrogantly facing the panchanga ghat. The murti was sunk in the Ganga until it was retrieved and placed in a small temple right next to the mosque where it now exists, an eyesore to bhaktas (2/N)
Suddenly, a localite pitches in saying "thokna nahin chah raha tha parantu aapki baat sahi nahi hai" (I didn't want to interrupt you. But what you're saying is wrong). And he points to the Partagali Gokarna matha building in that vicinity which had the sign (sthapit 1428) (3/N)
And says how is it that Alamgir spares this math while going after only the so called temple. He further said that he was a student of archaeology and history (although a dropout) and contended that this destruction story is a myth which has veen busted (4/N)
I challenged him with references from the French writer Travernier who has given a first hand account of the temple, calling it the largest "pagoda" in Kashi in its times. Infact, firmans of the Emperor ordering the Amir of Banaras to destroy the temple are available (5/N)
Online. Yet this man continued to argue that some historian by the name Khemka has refuted these "theories" and even claimed that the the Kashi temple was destroyed by one gyan Chandra Mishra and hence the name Gyanvapi. This was a new low even from the perspective of (6/N)
Of propaganda as I have never heard of this gyan Chandra Mishra theory. When he realised that he is not going to have his way, he started accusing modi bhakts of bullying the whole world. I was left wondering where did modi come in all this! (7/N)
The bottomline is that here was an intellectual sounding man, complete with references and on the sly stories, with enough arsenal to con the unsuspecting. He was selling pure BS on an event that has enough evidence on the records. Gives one a measure of just how organized (8/N)
Negationism is and how morally bankrupt it is. (N/N)
