/ We love a thread. So first of 2021 is a few thoughts on all things #nufc and where we currently stand. A frank opinion on Bruce, the #nufctakeover and the club both on and off the field. ⚫️⚪️ ⚽️
/ Bruce. Seeing lots of tweets about tonight by D-Day for him. Honestly ... it’s not. It’s far from it. He is arguably the safest manager in this league right now and here’s why: our owner’s only goal is to push through a takeover and get out of this club. That’s it.
/ and whilst a relegation does pose a real threat to any hopes of a takeover, on paper Bruce has already kept us afloat once and he doesn’t rock the boat. Yes it’s awful to watch. Yes he isn’t tactically astute. But Ashley isn’t concerned with that and never will be.
/ Sacking Bruce makes no sense right now. To plunge the dressing room into uncertainty mid-season would be shooting ourselves in the foot. Who would want the job? “Give it to Howe” is a common reaction. But why would he (or any half decent coach) come to us now for 6 months?
/ Managers want projects. We’re not that. We’re a club drifting without direction until any hopes of a takeover go through. Then dont forget if that goes through, the chances are the poor bloke who takes our job gets sacked immediately. It makes no sense to want the NUFC job atm
/ Let’s also not forget that the favourite to take the job before Bruce did was an obscure American coach who’d already been sacked from the MLS. We all saw what happened when John Carver took over from a mid season managerial departure and it wasn’t pretty to watch.
/ whilst we aren’t pro-Bruce at all, this is simply a realistic assessment of everything as a whole. Bruce isn’t right for this job and never was. Everyone will be better off when he departs but our best case scenario is he goes with the changing of the ownership guard.
/ Now things seem to be hotting up on the #nufctakeover front too with arbitration confirmed to be under way by the PL. Patience is all we can have at the minute. Everything is out of our hands as fans and all we can do is get behind our team despite the hollow feeling it gives.
/ But on a brighter note, this consortium are the real deal and can bring hope and joy back to our club. We should be grateful we weren’t sold for a quick penny to the likes of Bella Nova, BZG (sorry @oldheatonian @geordiedentist ) or Kenyon.
/ so here’s to 2021 as a #nufc fan. Where we hope Bruce can depart under new owners who bring ambition, hope and joy to our lifeless club. Where players can finally progress our team and fans can come together again to celebrate football in our magnificent stadium we call home!
