I was very irritated by the suggestion from some councillors that there was something sinister in the volume of correspondence they received about the Grangegorman trial. If only all such matters inspired such a civic engagement. I helped others with their emails, even
though some had divergent views and yet there was a suggestion of a ‘determined lobby’ in favour. I wasn’t even in favour at the beginning! As a resident and all-round Stoneybatter fan girl I think this attitude from some well-seasoned councillors is very dangerous.
Further, the suggestion that well thought out, reasoned responses by people that have taken the time and effort to educate themselves about something that isn’t in their wheelhouse (traffic management for me!) should be discouraged is insulting. I was undecided at the beginning.
I feel grateful to those who helped inform my understanding INCLUDING several prominent anti- campaigners. The exchanges I have had have changed the way I view consultation, engagement & indeed the fabric of our community. I really hope we can mend the divisions this revealed.
