/ Traditionally unions addressed wage concerns, but Google employees are some of the best paid employees in the US. So does this make it a "first world problem?" people complaining about their feelings at a time when so many people are suffering from unemployment?
/ In my opinion, it doesn't. If we look at the work that @timnitGebru has done on the bias in AI and how facial recognition is more likely to misidentify those with darker skin tones, it is clear that her voice needs to be represented.
/ A union is meant to provide safe working conditions for employees, I think we're just updating that definition to fit within the tech world.
/ Additionally, we have seen the responses by the tech giants in the aftermath of the recent attack on the Capitol. It is clear that these companies do feel like they have a moral and ethical obligation to fulfil. Shouldn't this extend to employees?
/ So what implications could this have on #gigworkers? Prop 22 made it clear that those that drive for the likes of Uber and Lyft are not employees but can the union evolve? Should it? Thoughts?
