agree we often underestimate the role of serendipity. hard work is necessary (usually) but it is not sufficient. https://twitter.com/random_walker/status/1348664433216802817
interesting case where I was told to 'run with' good luck.

Prof. Susan Collins, economist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_M._Collins_(economist) shared when I was a research assistant. sometimes you will get invitations because you are a woman. remember lots of people get invites for some non-merit reason.
do NOT question why you got an invite. just go and do your very best. KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK. I take that to heart in every one of my talks, panels, and interviews. it's not about me 'representing' women in macro, it's about using my opportunity to share what *I* know.
I subscribe to "every talk is a job talk." was taught that by Prof. Kerwin Charles https://som.yale.edu/faculty/kerwin-k-charles when I was a PhD student at Michigan. not to stress myself out but to bring my A-game. it's a privilege to have a platform, I try (not always successfully) to use mine well.
