Having seen some tales on school meals from people who have clearly never met someone living on or below the bread line. Here are some reasons vouchers or simple old cash increase to benefits is better than your ideas.
First off: being poor doesn’t mean your child is immune from food allergies such as gluten. They may struggle with some food types if they are autistic. Reason one.
Just because someone is poor doesn’t mean they cannot cook and the patronising “let them learn” with recipe cards is very annoying. What it does mean is they may not have utensils, oven, and fuel costs can be an issue and that being so jacket potatoes are v expensive to cook
So reason 3 - food preferences and the opportunity for hot food. If a child will eat hot tuna pasta, veg soup or curry for lunch that would be much better than a mouldy old plastic cheese sandwich.
Reason 4 - don’t be snobby about convenience food, if a parent is ill or disabled then enabling them to get some convenience food is better
