When it comes to almost anything energy, China is at least one of the biggest global players, except...

...Biofuels!

China is very small on biofuels (why?). Brazil is big as it has the resource. US, EU are big as they hoped biofuels were a transport techno-fix (oops).

For context, here is oil, which is what biofuels are meant to substitute. Here China is the 2nd biggest consumer after the US.

In contrast, China barely gets a mention in terms of biofuel volumes. Has China leapfrogged biofuels & gone straight to electric vehicles?

China leads to world when it comes to electric vehicle (BEV & PHEV) deployment.

I wonder if any countries will follow a biofuel route in transport now that EVs are competitive? If EVs came 10+ years earlier, would there even be a biofuel market?

3/
There is still a role for biofuels in heavy transport, machinery, aviation, etc.

I am not sure if any markets with high biofuel share now prioritise biofuels to specific applications? Not sure how Norway will manage this dynamic as EVs increase share ( @robbie_andrew?)
