Odd idea. Blue being a telepath, trying to not use that info against people (for deniability and just feeling scummy using private personal fears against people) and Nightmare finds out because he’s observant. Like he’s with the Stars and they fight NM’s gang a lot but NM isn’t
Around on the battlefield when Blue is usually. Towards the tail end of the fighting (before the truce), it’s escalating and they’re having giant fights all the time and Nightmare starts catching oddities with Blue’s behavior. It doesn’t make any sense at all. Blue will change
His targets frequently and randomly. His goals change towards the shifting goals without being told by Dream. But the real giveaway is Horror. It’s just chaos everywhere and Blue picks up a weird weapon he normally wouldn’t use and then when he engages Horror, he just. Stops.
Drops the thing and fights with something else. Horror doesn’t do well with them (flails let’s say), they caused the head crack, he’d be thrown off his game. But Horror didn’t share that with NM, he’s not sure Horror knows that consciously with his bad memory, NM just knows from
Watching his reactions 100x over. So Blue should have NO WAY of knowing that. At all. And he wracks his brain for awhile before settling on the most logical choice given the facts (no matter how silly it sounds). He incorporates in into his planning but gives it no more thought.
Truce happens, and suddenly things are quiet. Blue’s looking for things to do and lots of people suggest reading, and the gang suggest talking to NM because of his BIG library. And so he starts regularly stopping in, picking up books, Nightmare being very accommodating because
He doesn’t socialize too much outside the gang’s visits. Then one day, NM realizes he’s grown pretty fond of Blue. He has a crystal clear thought of kissing him. Now Blue can deal with that, it happens all the time, people just think about that kind of thing and at least it wasnt
Explicit (unlike some other people he knows). It’s all good until he hears NM clearly think afterwards,”damn, he saw that.” And Blue just...freezes.

So begins some Blightmare, very soft, learning to open up and be honest for NM, and Blue learning to not fear his own power and what it can do, that having power itself isn’t bad. Blue’s thoughts on fully tapping into mind reading full time and using that info are similar to
Eating a forbidden fruit. It’s a box you cannot close. NM helps him control it and improve but doesn’t try to bend his morals. (You can read thoughts, can you send them? Is it mental power, could it be channeled to telekinesis?). Just some odd supportive pair dynamic.
