Been meaning to do a thread about the language of the insurrection in Japan. These all come from NHK:
The headline: アメリカ民主主義の象徴が混乱に陥りました (Amerika minshu-shugi no shouchou ga konran ni ochi-irimashita) - A symbol of American democracy has fallen into disarray/confusion
It gets a little confusing because the word for occupy 占拠 is a homonym for the word for election 選挙 - both are せんきょ. They clearly state that Congress was occupied by Trump's 支持者 (shijisha) - supporters.
Congress manages to confirm Biden's election: 当選が確定された (tousen ga kakutei), ensuring he will take office. In Japanese, take office/be inaugurated - 就任 (shuunin)
The voice actor for Trump's "We're going to the Capitol!" is pretty good: "議事堂に向かうんだ！(Gijidou ni mukau nda!)

This part I can't entirely make out, 支持者が議事堂に一斉に___しました. Anyone want to try to fill in the blank? I think it's a 集 compound.

Gah. Meant to add that this is a good example of understanding well enough. Sometimes you listen/read for every word, and other times to get the meaning.

動画を投稿 (douga o toukou) - post a video. This is what Trump does in response. (Man, that was a bad video.)
呼びかける (yobikakeru). This verb is used to describe what Trump says: 家に帰るよう呼びかけました (ie ni kaeru you yobikakemashita) - Called for them to go home.
呼びかける is all over NHK during the pandemic, especially in the month or two before the emergency order. Pols in Japan were "calling on" people to do/not do certain things. The other similar word is 要請 (yousei) - request/call for/demand.
Nothing about "We love you, you're very special," although this news report isn't that granular.
デモ隊 (demotai, demonstrators) is the other word NHK uses to describe the Trump supporters.
Eventually the demotai are 排除 (haijo) removed.

This report is from 10:00pm NHK news report on January 7, which puts it at 7:00am January 7 U.S. time.
After the news dumb, one of the announcers notes: アメリカは前代未聞の時代になっていますね (Amerika wa zendai-mimon no jidai ni natte imasu ne) - "This is becoming an unprecedented moment in American history."
Gah. dumb = dump.
Her counterpart then replies: これはアメリカの民主主義の歴史に残る汚点になることは間違いないと思います (Kore wa Amerika no minshu-shugi no rekishi ni nokoru oten ni naru koto wa machigainai to omoimasu) "This will undoubtedly be a stain on the history of American democracy."
Key word here is 汚点 (oten) stain, flaw, disgrace, blot.

They emphasize that the electoral count was confirmed. After the hearings 再開 (saikai) - restart.

Toward the end of the report, there's also a note that Democrats gain control of the Senate thanks to the Georgia 決選投票 (kessen touhyou) - runoff election.

I like the way they talk about the Dems taking control: 主導権を握る (shudouken o nigiru) - take leadership.

Trump of course goes on to note that this is an end of sorts, but also: アメリカを再び偉大にする我々の戦いの始まりに過ぎない - This is just the start of our fight to make America great again.
