#UN #HumanRights Council is struggling over leadership issues. It’s the Asia group’s turn for #HRC46 President. Fiji, then Bahrain & Uzbekistan all tried. But no consensus yet. Secretariat HRC chief Eric Tistounet gave an explainer on procedure in Dec. See: https://www.jbi-humanrights.org/Remarks%20from%20the%20Chief%20of%20the%20HRC%20Branch%20at%20the%20OM%20held%20on%2016%20December%202020.docx
Tistounet reminds that Council members can vote to choose a President if no consensus from regional group or others.Even the rotation order is just a practice & can be changed by agreement. Maybe GRULAC or AFRICA want to step in? Or WEOG can stay for another year? Anything goes.
We looked at members from Asia— who would you choose as #HRC46 President? Bahrain, Bangladesh,China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Marshall Islands, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, or Uzbekistan. There’s no agreement among them.
