Birthday of Swami Vivekananda today.
The young man from an impoverished North Calcutta family who came under the spell of the seer Ramakrishna Paramahansa at Dakshineswar Temple. Charged with his divine inspiration,Swamiji trekked all over India in his saffron robes to discover
the soul of India. One of his discoveries was that Indians see everything through the prism of religion. Trying to take religion out of the hearts of Indians is like pushing the Ganga back from the sea up to the Himalayas. Yet that is what we tried to do through the panacea we
called ‘secularism’.
In a life of just 39 years he founded the huge monastic and philanthropic organization Ramakrishna Math and Mission; spread the greatness of Vedanta abroad; and became a beacon of light for us Bengali Hindus whose thinking had been poisoned by Marxism.
