the closest thing to the last few days for trump has been the NBC tape. it was a similar moment where approval plunged, allies abandoned him, looked like he was through. 1
he overcame it through bluster and just chugging along.

reaction here has been quite different. he's disappeared. 2
he bounced back from the NBC tapes by just basically daring people to believe their own ears. also of course claiming all the women coming forward were liars. 3
maybe biggest difference is he's on his way out of power rather than on the ascent? 4
nature of crimes are different, too—but the rape and harassment and abuse complaints were very serious. he's assaulted/harassed/raped dozens of women. 5
yeah, as severla people have pointed out, misogyny was a huge issue with the NBC tapes, and why he was able to just bluster through.
the thing here is he's just been broadly accepted as bearing responsibility in this case. mainstream media, even a lot of republicans just saying, yes, he is implicated. even House GOP caucus saying that...
like, "don't impeach him, but he made some mistakes."

you wouldn't necessarily have known that's how it would play out.
I mean, there are right people who are insisting he isn't responsible at all, but they've been pretty marginalized in comparison to how this usually works.
