I really like how TLJ undermines/criticizes Star Wars tropes but also reaffirms and reinforces them by the end.

It's not as REVOLUTIONARY as people think. (In a good way.)

Sometimes the old heroes don't get exponentially more powerful. Sometimes hero-worship misleads people, and creates hubris. But actually, he is ULTRA POWERFUL and legends are good. Cuz it's Star Wars.
The Resistance is worth fighting for. But also, the Resistance is made up of people, and it's okay to care about 1.

TLJ feels like a movie where the central conflict/artistic point is to present a Star Wars movie that's struggling to BE a Star Wars movie versus any attempt to make it something else.

I think people OVERESTIMATE how much TLJ changes the Star Wars status quo.
A film where the LIGHT and the DARK meet in the morally grey center, and....

Kylo doesn't mention the First Order in the list of things to die, and...

They don't join forces.
A film where HEY maybe Rebels/Empire, Jedi/Sith are all the same, and you should only look out for yourself.

Just saying. People give Rian WAAAAAAAAAAY too much credit for nonconformity and iconoclasm (on both sides). TLJ conforms in the end. It deconstructs... to RECONSTRUCT.
