1/ Takeaways from #COVID19BC update today:

3 reporting periods (Fri-Sun):

1475 new cases in BC with 49.9% in @Fraserhealth

While cases are still highest in FH, it is heartening to see the regional gap closing significantly.

Thank you to everyone who is doing what they can.
2/ Takeaways ctd:

Grim milestone, >1000 people (1010 total) have now passed away from #COVID19BC since the beginning of Pandemic.

Daily death counts are dropping, but take this a reminder of the # of people and families that are continuing to be affected on a daily basis.
3/ Takeaways ctd: (General vaccine)

Dr. Henry discussed rationale for 35 days interval b/w dose 1 & 2 of vaccines. Review of trial data and consultation from National Advisory Committee on Immunization.

Vaccine is a primer. Essentially need time for cell-mediated immunity
4/ Takeaways ctd: ( #PfizerVaccine)

Pfizer Vaccine is 92.6% effective after 14 days post first dose + 94.8% effective after dose 2.

In the trial, the 2nd dose was given between day 19-42

No difference in protection between these days.

No decrease in protection!
5/ Takeaways ctd: ( #ModernaVaccine)

Moderna Vaccine is 92.1% effective after 14 days post first dose + 95.1% effective after dose 2.

In the trial, the 2nd dose was given between day 21-42

No difference in protection between these days.

No decrease in protection!
6/ Takeaways ctd:

@WHO and NACI have updated recommended dosing intervals to up to 42 days, so @CDCofBC recommendation of 35 days is within that.

Update was reassuring & I feel more comfortable with this strategy/better informed to discuss with my patients & community now.
