Some take-home points with the data for EM from the most recent 2020 PD survey regarding application and interviews:

Here is the data for what factors highest for getting an interview. Nothing tops the SLOE. On a scale of 1-5, SLOEs came in with a 4.9 in terms of importance for getting an interview.
Other things go along with the fact that clinical performance is more important than anything. EM grades, EM audition at your site, EM auditions elsewhere... all factor in as the most important. Not having failed a board is also very important for getting an interview.
Lastly for getting an interview, "prior personal knowledge of an applicant" is also heavily weighed. This is why something like the residency fair this year, having occurred before invites went out, was very important IMO.
Next set of data is what is important when it comes to ranking applicants. This is clearly very similar, with rotation performance in your department, SLOEs, EM grades, etc all heavily factoring in, along with passing board scores. But notice one other HUGE additional factor...
The biggest factor now in addition to SLOEs is the interview. interpersonal skills, Interactions with faculty and residents during interview and visit, and Feedback from current residents all rate just as highly as SLOEs when determining where you are ranked.
Last piece of info is the invite breakdown. Now this is regarding a typical year, not this year's shortened cycle. Despite ERAS opening in Sept, only 11% of invites go out in Sept (I'd venture to guess many of these go to students that have rotated already).
54% of invites come in October, with diminishing numbers in each of the next 3 months. On the other hand, the interviews themselves (helpful for planning lighter months) are mostly Nov-Jan with only 15% coming before November.
Those were the big takeaways from the data I saw this time. Nothing that different than other years in the past. Hope this helps.
