Hi everyone! Here’s step-by-step details I would like to share from my experience handing my nomination papers at City Hall for #RunningForPublicOffice #yegWomen
[a thread] 1/
The email reminder 📩 they send you ahead of time is detailed and helpful. You gotta fill out the online COVID screening test. Upon arriving at City Hall, you’ll get screened again. 2/
I was the 1st appointment. City Hall was locked when I arrived but they saw me through the glass and opened the door. At the entrance you’re asked if you have all the forms. 3/
I was greeted by nice professional and courteous staff. One of them was shadowing her colleague for training purposes. I bet they need it when it gets busier. 4/
Filing papers is in the River Valley room which is on the main floor, the one used for committee meetings. It's weird seeing City Hall after all these months. 5/
I sat down on the counter. Then I saw the large camera and the big mic 🎤 on a pole. Yes that's right! I almost forgot that this is going to be live streamed. Husband watched from home. 6/🥰
I was asked to bring out my forms and handed in to the staff on the counter-plexiglass is between us. When she checking ID, I was asked to remove my mask 😷 for a second to compare my face & picture. 7/
Paperwork was reviewed - all looks good! My documents were not commissioned yet, so I had to do that over there. Choice between commission or affirm. I chose to affirm. 8/
If you are a religious person and would like to swear you have three options for religious books 📚. A Bible or Quran and a Torah. I’m happy that there are several options! 9/
Afterwards, they needed to do a recording of my voice. This is for the election machines for voters with accessibility needs and can’t read. You say your name loud and clear into a machine. 10/
They put the recording machine in front of me. I spoke through my mask and it sounded loud and clear. We needed to do again because the machine froze. No biggie! 11/
Then it’s payment time! 💸 I was anxious at first because initially, payment has to be cash/ cheque/ money order. So happy that a bylaw got passed last week to allow card payments! 12/
The machine need to be turned on as well as I was the 1st appointment. I paid with debit, just tapped on the machine. The beeping noises really echo in the room with so few people, LOL! 😅 13/
I also asked a few questions to clarify about bank accounts. Turns out, it is a common question! Bank does not have to be a business account or Community nonprofit account! 14/
Campaign accounts can be a personal account as long as it is used exclusively for campaign stuff only. The email after the nomination process can serve as the document to open an account if the bank asks for one. 15/
Then it’s done! City Hall is closed to the public I was escorted out by a staff person. When I realized this I realized I have to hold it and wait til I get home to use the washroom. 16/
I highly recommend taking a picture or video in front of city hall to commemorate this milestone! All the best to those running for #yegvote, a bit of extra love to my fellow first-timers! 17/ 17 🥰 https://twitter.com/gisellegeneral/status/1348670852905095174
